HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Ethiopian Opal was first discovered in the Shewa Province in 1990, with the more famous Welo deposits found in 2008. Its rainbow flashes rival Australian opals, yet Ethiopian specimens are distinct for their hydrophane nature, absorbing water and shifting appearance. In metaphysical traditions, Ethiopian Opal is celebrated as a stone of transformation, creativity, and joy. Its vibrant play-of-color symbolizes hope, renewal, and infinite spiritual possibility, making it a treasured gem among collectors and healers.
